和许多其他参数化设计工具一样，Karamba3D是一个有限元计算程序。但与其他同类程序相比，Karamba3D在诸多方面皆有着显著优势：非专业人士易于掌握、针对建筑师和工程师的设计需求量身定制、采用交互式工作模式、价格略低。

Karamba3D可以完全嵌入Grasshopper的参数设计环境中（Grasshopper是在三维建模软件Rhinoceros环境下运行的一个参数化设计插件）。嵌入Karamba3D程序后，Grasshopper可以轻松地处理参数化几何模型，进行有限元计算和分析，实现Octopus或Galapagos等运算器的优化算法。
